Philip W. Ballinger, Ph.D., R.T.(R)
Philip W. Ballinger served as Director and Assistant Professor of the Radiologic Technology Division at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio for 25 years. Following an early retirement buyout in 1995, he continues to serve OSU as a Professor Emeritus.
Professor Ballinger grew up in a small farming community in Ohio. After completing a hospital certificate program in radiography, he returned to college and earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry. His first full time job was directing a hospital certificate program in Indiana. In 1970, he and his wife, Nancy, moved to Ohio where Phil developed the baccalaureate degree radiography program at The Ohio State University in Columbus. While teaching at OSU, he concurrently earned his master’s degree and in January of 2004 he completed his Ph.D. degree in Educational Administration.
Phil holds membership in the American, Canadian, and International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists plus membership in various state, national and international professional societies. He has authored or co-authored over 40 scientific publications. Through four editions, Professor Ballinger served as sole author of Merrill’s Atlas of Radiographic Positions and Radiologic Procedures and in 1989 created the Pocket Guide to Radiography. Since 2009 Dr. Phil began revising, expanding and developing new apps for the company which he and a colleague serve as co-owners. One may assume the positioning apps are in agreement with the radiographic positioning textbooks currently in print.
